The Devils Porridge

Museo | Stanfield | Inglaterra | Reino Unido

I went to visit the web site and found that I couldn’t turn cookies off. I’m not prepared to accept my data being shared, so I didn’t go any further. If I could see more information without them using cookies, I might visit.

An amazing place to visit and experience how munitions were made in difficult conditions by young girls and women. Not forgetting the hardships they endured with the weather conditions and all under the possibilities of being killed whilst working. A totally interesting place. I'd recommend visiting here 😁🇬🇧👍

Interesting, but some missing information on how cordite was made. As expected, plenty to interest children, which is good, but adults need more in depth details. The train crash exhibit was good.

Small, but intense. Take your time in here and let it sink in. Some will shock, some will despair but all in all you will be massively impressed.

Great little museum to visit, very informative, and plenty of interactive things to do and listen to and things to watch. It has a little gift shop as well and a free car park and there is a small cafe attached to the museum, which serves nice food and drinks. The museum is on two levels, which is accessed by stairs or a lift. The site is wheel chair accessible. If you read and watched everything at the museum, you would be there a fair while, a good rainy day place to visit, to spend a few hours. Well worth a visit.

An absolutely superb museum, explaining the development of the munitions (cordite, really) factory for the First World War near Gretna, its operations and the subsequent experiences of the area between the wars and during the Second World War. The museum is just very well done. There's some repetition, but loads of fascinating detail and description of what was a monumental undertaking and the people involved. And the volunteers are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. If you visit only one museum, make it this one!

Very small, but very interesting museum, it did take a while to get in as the gentlemen on the ticket booth was answering a lot of questions from other families going in. Once in though it was well set up and very interesting and informative throughout. I wasn't impressed with what the cafe provided which is the reason for only 3 stars.

Really interesting and interactive. The kids loved it. There is such a large amount of media, 1st hand accounts, as well as extensive records. I loved seeing the old cannon shells. They even had some dress up for the younger children.
